Portage-Kalamazoo Freecycle Help "CHANGING THE WORLD ONE GIFT AT A TIME" |
|
| To Show Or No Show,
That Is The Question What is a no show? When two members have agreed on a pickup plan and the member traveling to the other's location doesn't show up or shows up too late without calling. Most members know how this goes. The non showing member seems to disappear off the face of the earth as if by magic. They don't answer the phone or respond to emails. After a few of these events, the no showed member starts to get rather annoyed (pissed) and cynical about gifting. Freecycle is a great idea but, unfortunately, can bring out the best and the worst in people. I am so sad when I hear members vent about being no showed and how they no longer feel the love;( What not to do if you are no showed - Don't give up on the group. IMHO, the majority of our members are the most giving, kind people in the community. Don't let a few people who are not yet into the spirit of Freecycle bring negativity to your life. Try to focus why you joined the group in the first place. Don't get side tracked by a few unthinking members. Try to not place yourself in the situation in the first place. Personally, I only gift with members I have had a positive history with or get a verifiable phone number so we can communicate if there is a problem. I have been putting off this last part for some time now but the problem is not going away on its own. If you feel that you have been no showed feel free to write me about it. You need to send me the name of the member, a rundown of what happened and all emails to and from them about this Freecycle gone bad (yes, save all that mail otherwise it is he said - she said). I promise to investigate, mediate and take action if warranted. One no show won't get a member banned from PKF but if patterns develop it can happen. Thanx for your time reading this. peace, |
