Moderation of Posts to PKF

Many members of PKF are on what is called moderation. That means we check each of their posts to the public list before it goes out. We a total of 9 moderators but not all of us are active every day. There is usually one of us logging at some time during the day but you may experience some delay between the time you send a post and when you see it appear on the list.

So please don't resend posts that do not appear right after you send them. If they do not come back to you as undeliverable mail after a few hours, check your sent box to make sure you addressed it to: Portage-KalamazooFreecycle@yahoogroups.com. If you feel that it has not gotten to us please do not write anything to the public list. Instead, send your concern to: Portage-KalamazooFreecycle-owner@yahoogroups.com We will get back to you if we have not received your post.

All new members are automatically put onto moderation when they join. After some time of posting to show that they know and follow the rules we will consider taking these members off moderation. Those members' posts would then go directly to the list only delayed by the yahoo servers.

In the past we have not wanted to complicate things for members by talking about whether they are on moderation. All unmoderated members need to know that it is their responsibility to know and stay within the rules. All members, especially those members who are off of moderation, should to check the rules when in doubt and run things by us if they are not sure if their post will be considered within the rules. Once their submissions go to the group as posts they cannot be taken back. If they are not within the rules problems are created. Others seeing these posts might think the rule has been changed or is not being enforced. Many other members go ahead and try to post in a similar manor. When their moderated submissions are rejected they don't always understand feeling they are not being treated fairly instead of understanding an unmoderated member has made a mistake. Unmoderated members who do go ahead and post improperly are immediately put back on moderation. Moderation status is decided on a case by case basis by the moderators.

I would like to see that stressful situations not occur again so we are making an effort to empower members to manage their usage of the list in ways that they are comfortable with. If you want to removed from moderation please let us know. Please do not view moderation as a personal judgment of a member's status. as facilitator I keep myself on moderation because that is what I am comfortable with.

peace,
